The Daily GlyphI pause today in the middle of editing my Chiapas story from this spring, to mourn the death of Sombra, a magnificent, enormous black jaguar that last lived in the Zoomat in Tuxtla Gutierrez. Janet Schwartz and I visited him in June. It gave me shivers to see him pacing back and forth behind glass in an open area, just a foot away and apparently stalking us. He died after an escape when he failed to wake up from a tranquilizer dart.
(I will look to see if I have a clip. It was difficult to shoot him through the glass)
